Lonworks

With millions of devices installed all over the world, the LonWorks® system, developed by Echelon®, is one of the dominant solutions in the market of automation and control in industry, offices, homes and transport.

The Airedale controllers, using special serial cards, can be integrated into LonWorks® networks. The RS485 and the FTT10 standards are supported by the LonWorks® serial cards. The two types of LonWorks® serial cards differ by the type of interface on the LonWorks® network side:-

• FTT-10A 78 kbs (TP/FT-10)
• RS485 39 kbs (TP/485-39)

The FTT-10A type serial cards use an Echelon® transceiver, which is approved to be used on the TP/FT-10 channel. This channel is characterised by the following main features:-

• It consists of up to 64 nodes on a single network segment
• The nodes are connected with free topology wiring, thus accommodating star, bus, loop, and any combinations of these topologies
  data rate 78.125 kbs
• The maximum distance for free topology connection is 500m between nodes, or 2700m between nodes with bus connection and double line ending

The RS485 type serial cards use an Echelon® TP/485-39 transceiver that supports the EIA RS-485 specification, in particular:-

• The maximum number of nodes is 32
• It is specified to support only bus writing
• The transceiver data rate is 39 kbps
• Maximum distance is 1200m
