Test Centre

The Test Centre

Airedale International has invested over £2 million in a purpose built facility that sets the standard as one of the most advanced product testing centres of its kind within the global air conditioning industry.

Designed and built to exceed stringent international standards, the Test Centre is capable of testing a complete range of air conditioning equipment with cooling and heating capacities from 2kW to 120kW and air cooled water chillers up to 1MW, the climate temperature being fully controllable anywhere from -5°C to +55°C.
  • ISO5151 – Testing of A/C units & heat pumps – Non-ducted
  • ISO5151 – Testing of A/C units & heat pumps – Non-ducted
  • Eurovent 6/6 Standard 6/6 and all rating standards
  • BSEN 814 – Rating tests,cooling & AC 8 HP
  • BSEN12055 – Rating tests,liquid chilling packages
  • BSEN ISO 11203 – Sound power measurement

The Application

It has been a dedicated policy of Airedale’s to performance test all products prior to their despatch to our customers. This rigorous testing procedure involves both on-line safety testing for leaks, as well as post-production testing to ensure conformance to strict performance guidelines. In addition, customer witness tests are co-ordinated, where appropriate, in association with the customer to demonstrate individual product performance capabilities.

The Future

Airedale operates a continuous research and development programme to develop innovative and high performance air conditioning products. This characteristically requires rigorous and complex development testing carried out in advanced insulated chambers with the capability to sustain a specific combination of ambient temperature conditions. The Airedale Test Centre ensures that Airedale’s air conditioning products consistently offer some of the industry’s leading proven environmental and cost performance figures, combined with the highest quality, reliability and service.

The Facility

The Centre itself comprises three main test chambers and a test control room. The designated power supply rating is 1300 amps, which incorporates automatic voltage regulation for both single and three phase power supplies to all chambers. A computerised Test Centre Management and Data Acquisition System can control and measure differences in air enthalpy both on and off the units under test, and calculate accurate air volumes by employing an AMCA Air Flow Measuring System.

Chamber 1

  • Double room
  • Capable of handling both packaged or split units; air cooled, water cooled or chilled water
  • Total floor area of 37.5sq metres
  • Designed for testing roof and wall mounted units up to 20kW cooling capacity

Chamber 2

  • Double room
  • Capable of handling both packaged and split units; air cooled, water cooled and chilled water - also capable of testing chillers
  • Total floor area of 90.2sq metres
  • Designed for close control units, small air cooled chillers and large roof mounted units up to 120kW cooling capacity

Chamber 3

  • Single ambient controlled compartment
  • Dedicated test area for medium to large air cooled/water cooled chillers up to 1MW cooling capacity

Test Control Room

  • All data collected via the Test Centre Management and Data Acquisition system
  • Data acquisition points provided in each chamber to measure electrical values of volts, amps and watts along with water temperatures, flow rates and refrigeration temperatures and values
  • AMCA Air Flow Measuring System – control & measurement
  • Remote control operation negates requirement to enter chamber during test
